Thanks for thant njm, great post!
I have thought about painting the doors but the design (groove) is also old fashioned, so i think new doors are a must. Painting the tiles could be a good idea- will check out the cost and look of new v's cost and look of painted.
Agree about the worktop fitting, we have two of those 'metal strips' atm and would deffo want to go down the mitred route.0 -
My brother has just replaced the worktop, doors and painted the ends of the units with gloss paint using a roler. It looks like a new kitchen
for about a fraction of the cost. Most kithen doors are standard sizes.
He used the 'metal strips' on the worktop but he got them couloured to match the worktop. You dont realy notice them and are much cheaper than getting in a chippy
If you go to a B&Q warehouse they stock a large amount of doors and are relitivly well priced.
Hes so pleased with how it looks hes going to tile the walls and floor next0 -
A question about painting tiles. I have read so many conflicting reports about doing this. Some say it looks great and others say on no account to paint tiles!

Any recommendations on the best way to paint tiles and should the grout be painted as well?'Puritanism: the haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy'.

Dont paint tiles unless there is no chance of them ever getting touched.
All the times i have seen it done they allways end up scratched.0 -
Painting tiles – I have done this on a number of occasions and, with the correct products, have achieved a hard wearing, scratch resistant finish. There are some “cheap” products on the market and I’m afraid the end result will show. For background reading you could try

And this link has basic guidance on tiling over existing tiles, which might be a good option as white tiles are very popular (and cheap) at the moment.

Respraying Doors – this is not a DIY job really, the main problem is that the appropriate paint is not available in spray cans, unless you want to use car paint (which could be attractive in its own way!) The economic electric spray guns do not work, even for garden fences, and the appropriate spray equipment required for a decent job would be uneconomic to purchase for just one kitchen.
Suitable paints are available in almost any colour and some manufacturers will colour match as well, although these facilities may only be available to the trade. Respraying will not be cheap, but should be cheaper than replacing the doors, and the more doors there are the more economic it becomes. There are companies who only spray furniture or you could try a small furniture maker, as many will have spraying facilities.I came, I saw, I did a little browsing.0 -
            Just my little input.
I wondered if you could get away with tiling over the existing.
I have and got a perfect finish. They stick very well.
