Searches when buying a house

Waiting on house completion/contract exchange. My solicitor says he s waiting on vendor's solicitor to get searches. However online info says that buyers solicitor is supposed to get searches. Is the vendor solicitor supposed to get any searches?
Also because we have to move in asap. My solicitor suggested forming a caretaker agreement. Is this a good idea?

Which country? If England you are right - buyer does searches.

However, your solicitor may be waiting for other info from the seller's solicitor (draft contract) before he starts the searches. Is that what he meant?

caretaker agreement. Is the property empty? Are you hoping to move in before buying? A caretaker agreement is a possibility but personally as a seller I'd tell you to take a hike!

    Thanks!

    House is in Belfast, NI.

He did receive draft contract and the deeds but he says they are meant to provide some "searches" !!! The searches he meant to do should take only a day he claims while theirs will take 2 to 3 weeks!!

I am concerned that he is pushing them too much if he is nor right to ask for these and might jeopardise the sale

Could the vendors be waiting for searches for the property they're buying?

No. Vendors say they have a place to move to already. They do not want direct contact anyway. EA says vendor wants contact only through solicitor. I can't understand why ppl over complicate things!!
