Does it include credit checking you to confirm you can afford the place on your own, taking and protecting a new deposit for the new tenancy, a new check-in inventory, and a new contract? You wouldn't want to be suprised by extra costs later.
They said the £340 would be to remove the other tenant from the contract. I would need to undergo new credit checks to show I could afford the rent on my own. (which I assume is possibly part of the reason for the £340 charge- although clearly it won't cost them that much!). No mention of deposit or new check-in fee... clearly my flatmate will want their deposit back though!
It seems like there isn't much I can do to avoid these charges... One possible solution seems to be for my flatmate to move out and just simply not remove themself from the contract. I know we would be both legally be liable for the rent, but assuming the rent is paid each month that wouldn't be a problem, would it? Surely just because a person is named on a tenancy you can't actually force them to live there?!0 -

In total, yes. There was a fee per tenant of £340, plus check in fee and property holding fee (although I think that was credited against the deposit when we signed the contract)
Upon leaving the contract there will be a property exit fee to pay too.
