First-utility extended my fixed tariff against my will
Options
I received a sales phone call from First-utility last week offering to fix my tariff (due to end in July) at the same rate until 2017. The salesman went through his terms and conditions at speed before asking "so can you confirm that you want to take up this offer?" I answered "NO". The salesman was in disbelief and asked why and I explained that the energy tariffs have fallen and I can get a better deal. He then rudely hung up on me.
Now I find that my latest bill shows the tariff has been changed to end in 2017 against my wishes. I can't be the only one that this has happened to and if I hadn't inspected my bill I wouldn't have spotted it.

I m interested in hearing what the better deal was. Every time I fill in a comp site for latest prices First Utility are up there at, or near the top. I would ve gone for a 2016 fix myself tho.. I ve tried to get onto F.Us excellent rates in the past, but they failed badly to even switch me, so I havent the nerve to go with them again.0

Check the annual cost of the new tariff on comparison sites and if you are still unhappy then send them a complaint objecting to the transfer.
If the new tariff fixes your old rates until 2017, there may be some advantage to sticking with it. Check the penalty payments for early termination.
I don't think energy prices are likely go much lower but there is plenty of potential for them rising so I would urge you to think it through before objecting.Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Don't worry about anyone else - I'm sure going onto the supplier's expensive standard rate will be a lot more expensive than any fixed tariff, so perhaps FU are doing others a favour
In regards to your own situaton, if you are unhappy, make a complaint. The call made would have certainly been recorded, so they will be able to refer to that.
You could even request a copy for yourself (although they may charge you up to a tenner for that)
If your complaint is upheld, the caller will probably have to undertake further training ... if he still has his job at all.0
