Code on car radio

As I was driving into a supermarket car park this afternoon the radio programme I was listening to was briefly interrupted (as with a traffic announcement) with the instruction to enter the code displayed (4 digits) on the radio into my mobile phone. Those 4 digits stayed there even if changing stations or switching off/on - but had disappeared 20 minutes later on leaving after shopping.

What was going on? Some new form of scam? Where did the announcement come from?

(My phone was actually sitting quietly at home, switched off)

Yes - first time. There is Bluetooth on the car radio (Ford) but I've never enabled it and don't use it.

But yes it sounds plausible that it's Bluetooth related
