new boiler warranty - how this works

Hello,
We'll move to our first house soon and the boiler replacement will be the most expensive one after the kitchen.
I found a boiler on ebay but the seller can only give me a receipt from his trade company. It's a brand new boiler (sealed!) but I don't know how the warranty would work though.
Because I won't buy it from a shop, where will I stand with this? I can only install it through a gas registered plumber but I haven't got a clue who do I need to go back to in case the boiler breaks. Will the manufacturer get involved as long as I've got the receipt? From what I've been told, once the boiler is installed, I can then register it for warranty on the manufacturer's website.
Also, if the boiler has it's annual service by an authorised installer, the warranty will be extended for up to 7 years.
Many thanks in advance.

The warranty would be with the manufacturer. You will need to register it - so make sure you have all the details that the registration form asks for. Fail to register and the warranty is worthless.
If it goes wrong, it will be one of their approved service agents who fixes it.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Just be aware that the boiler may be a 'Freebie' from his boiler manufacturer.
Some of the manufacturers offer loyality schemes ( like Clubcard/nectar etc) and he may have 'bought it' via his points. They may have logged the serial no of it, so they will be able to track where it has come from.
If it is one like this, he may have only been able to fit it himself and not for resale to a third party. If is has come from something like this, he should declare it to the HMRC as it would be a taxable 'gift', sort of a benefit in kind. Something like this happened a few years ago. A boiler co was offering a free gas fire with every The merchants then sold the boiler on, without the fire, then sold the fires cheap elsewhere , inc Internet. When issues with the fires came up, the fires had their warranties voided, as the serial no's for the fire and boilers had been logged, as the products were banded together.
Check it all out first, before you spend a lot of money. Personally, I wouldn't be buying something like that off a site like Ebay ! Any loop hole a manufacturer can get, to get out of a warranty will be used, believe me !0
