Lied to by Sureterm Direct

Hi all, I am thinking about buying a Toyota Glanza imported from Japan, and last week I went to a showroom to look at one. I did not buy the car but I was given a list of recommended insurers to get a quote, for when I do eventually buy one. One of these insurers was Sureterm Direct, who have a website on which you can fill out a form with all your details, for them to contact you. I filled the form in accurately and within 2 days I was sent an email saying this:
Hello
Thank you for your email. I have checked your details for the required
quote against our 40 different underwriters and are pleased to tell you that
we can beat your best price indicated. Please contact my sales team on
0845 20 20 230, choosing option 1 from 8.30 am to 7.30 pm.
I decided to ring the number to tell them that I hadnt yet bought the car, but intended to do so in a week or so, and to see if the offer would still stand. The person I talked to asked for some details, went to talk to his manager, then came back on the line to tell me that they could not insure me as the car is an import! I thought this was quite strange as the website had a section called imports, in which I filled the form in. When asked why they had sent me the email above if they couldn't insure me, they said it was an automated response! This seems more like a blatant lie to me. Why are insurance companies allowed to mislead the public in this way?

They are not. It would be a breach of TCF if they were actively doing that. If you feel that strong about it being a possible rule breach then complaint to the company. They have to log your complaint and it will be available for the FSA to view when they pay the firm a visit.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
