Upgrade Dell Laptop

Daughter2 has a Dell Inspiron 1545-Q21 running W7 (HP, 64 bit, SP1)

It's getting rather tediously slow.
We've run CCleaner and Malwarebytes, but not much improvement.

The HDD is nearly full - could I replace with a bigger one??
It 'only' has 3GB RAM - could I add more??
The battery 'monitor' keeps saying 'consider replacing your battery' - why??

:)

The short answer is yes. The slightly longer answer is you'll need to reinstall Windows (unless you image the current drive and put that image onto the new drive). You'll also need to reinstall any software that you currently use (good time for a clear-out??).

You can, 32-bit software will only "see" (roughtly) 3.5GB of RAM, 64-bit will see (and use) more.

The battery is probably goosed. If it's been used mainly on mains power, then that sometimes can damage the battery.

Before you consider replacing anything, which bit is slow (boot-up or general use)?

Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.

It's the Pentium® Processor T4400. Good enough for general usage. Think about a backup of your important data and a clean install of Windows 7 without the unnecessary software.

Have you filled the C: drive? That would also contribute to sluggishness. Anything on the Data ( D: ) partition? Unusual to have filled a 500 GB drive(if it is). Should be stored externally if important.

Pretty well, yes - 115 of 148 used

    No D partition

    148 GB, see above

Not true, a 32 bit PAE Kernel can address more..

Unless you have changed the hard drive, it's 500 GB. So you have a separate data partition.
