New Broadband connection help please

I've posted this on the Internet Access Board, but may be a Techie question - so here goes again:

I am writing on behalf of a friend who is trying to connect to Orange Broadband (with the Orange Broadband pack - CD/modem/ADSL filters)..(She is not switching Broadband as she was previously with dial up Freeserve).

She has a BT phone line rental - her phone calls are with TalkTalk.

What is the procedure?

Does she need to obtain a MAC code from BT in order to initiate her Orange Broadband? Incidentally her operating system is VISTA Home Premium.

I dont think dial up uses MAC codes, they are used for BB so she shouldnt need to obtain a MAC code. I didnt realise FREESERVE still existed, I had them years ago, hated them. The procedure should be setting up the equiptment, inserting the disk provided, inserting the password provided by Orange. Any problems logging herself into Orange BB, she will have to phone them to ensure they have activated it.

  • Dial up doesnt use a Mac code and freeserve operates under orange telecoms but old freeserve customers get orange dial up at a cheaper rate - think its £9.99

It's def not anything to do with the dial up

Thanks for that. I thought the MAC code was just for changing Broadband providers but I wasn't sure what happened with new Broadband accounts. I think her dial up Freeserve was quite some time ago.

Anyway wanted to eliminate that from my enquiries!
