ive had a capital one secured card since Jan 2015 and I always spend £25 each month and pay off in full via direct debit
ive been trying to find an answer to my question but i cant find one and ive tried ringing capital one but they were very busy and i was on hold for 25min before i gave up...
can capital one upgrade a secured card to a classic card? i have read that they can ask you to close the capital one secured card first then apply for classic card but theres no gaurentee that they will accept you so i could just be closing my cap one secured for nothing?
im not planning on asking for an upgrade till Nov/Dec time though
i dont know if thats correct or not?
anyone any experience with this?

That's the case yes. They won't upgrade the card (although they may change the limit on the existing card if you request it).
It's a shame - the US Capital One allow you to have whatever limit you want up to $3,000 as long as you provide the same in cash security before the account is opened - that's about what £2k here. Would be very helpful and I imagine a big help to many people's credit ratings if they could get hold of 2k to put down for it.
Is the secured card even still being offered? I can't seem to find it on their website....0 -
I originally applied for he classic card but they offered the secured with £99 deposit so I paid that, I think I'm gonna keep the card and do the same for the next 8 months and close it in January 2016 and apply for the classic, that's if they don't increase the limit but I'm pretty sure you can't get a higher limit than £200 on the secured card?Debt Free by Dec 2015!

Now that you've built up a credit history of paying a credit card, you could always try with another provider like Barclaycard Initial or Tesco Basic.0

To confirm that Capital One do NOT change from a secured to an unsecured card!
Cap 1 will also not offer you another card whilst on the secured card! You will need to close the secured account and wait for a few months before applying with capital one!
The only other option would be to apply elsewhere when the time comes!0 -
I'm not sure they upgrade the account but reading through pervious posts they can up the limit on secured cards..
My mother has a secured card and she recently used the capital one pre-check tool and it told her she was eligible to apply for a classic card. She then proceeded to apply and was informed she had been accepted, someone phoned her to confirm the application was made by herself and then was informed she had been successful and it arrived within the next week, She currently holds a Secured Card with a £200 credit limit and she also holds a Capital One Classic Card with another £200 credit limit and she is able to use both of them with no problems..
Just keep checking the pre-check tool! :j
She got the secured card in December with a 99 deposit and was accepted for the classic card in may!
Hope this helps! You have no rights until you know about them.:)0
