Are you a driving instructor? How much do you earn?

like others have mentioned here, it's a job where your take home pay is a lot less than people think. my driving instructor himself said he doesn't take home that much in all honesty. although he didn't give a figure, i tend to believe him as it's consistent with what i've read and heard about driving instructor pay. he took me out at 6am in the mornings just so he could fit in other people too. he may earn a little more than most, but the hours will be longer for him.0

The early starts are because most people who learn are either at school, university or work. Therefore you tend to get most of your work outside of 9-5pm Monday to Friday. A normal working day for my friend is:
7-10am, 12 - 2pm, 5 - 8pm Monday to Friday and one day at the weekend.0 -

I've similar experience with ex-driving instructors who've been taken for a ride (excuse the pun) by Franchise owners with all the known and unknown overheads. Like Uber, booking & payment is online these days.
They are much happier now as employees on a dependable wage.Originally Posted by shortcrust

This is why being your own boss isn't suitable for everyone as you need to have a good work ethic to make it worthwhile.
If you're prepared to work hard then you can earn a lot more than £30k as the more you work the more you earn. At the end of the day every hour you do gives you between £20-30 more in your pocket.0 -

Yup.
One of my female colleagues told me she worked lots of weekends for about £12 an hour. Naturally the Franchisee still got their slice out of the £25 punters paid.Originally Posted by shortcrust

I see what you're saying but it has nothing to do with Work Ethic, its more work/life balance. Sux if you have a family that want to see you etc. 6 days a week putting the hours in for just £30k seems off to me, i make almost that on 35 hours a week sitting at my desk.
Imo if you are going self employed 6 days a week to give driving lessons then you will have a poor return. If you have other people doing it for you then :money:
so IMO going it alone wont be very economical, having a team of people who are willing to do the driving and giving lessons is better.0 -

You would probably do 5 days and give yourself a day off during the week. It is hard to escape weekend working as most people who want to learn to drive will have their own commitments during the working week so weekends will always be key dates for driving lessons.0
