Hi
My friends friend who is a plaumber came and disconnected my bathroom suite the other day but didn't have a leadlock so that I could run the water downstairs. he told me what to buy which i have done today.
I took a piece of the lead into a plumbers merchants and bought the right size leadlock, then took it to my house that I am doing up, screwed one end of the lead lock onto the lead, applied my piece of copper pipe with end on on the other end, screwed tight and switched the water back on.
Even thought it was tight enough water was coming out of it and running down so have had to turn the water back off.
Any ideas what is going wrong?
The leadlock is one of those black plastic things, cost me £11 and was told it was simple, but not enough for me.
A fella came from next door to see if he could see what I was doing wrong but he thought I had done everything right so now totally confused.
Thanks
Jules

A LeadLoc is a brass compression type fitting that fits over the lead and tightens down onto it. The fact you have a black plastic fitting suggets its a different type of fitting0

Hi
You didn't get what you asked for...http://www.melimatic.com/lead_loc.htm
Not sure what you've got but it might not be 'universal' enough to fully seal your size of lead.
Can you not cut the lead out completely?

Thankyou both of you.
I think I am going to go to local DIY shop tomorrow and ask them for the brass fitting as that sounds more like what the plumber had said. I explained and had wrote down what I wanted before but they gave me the plastic lead lock, I am wondering if there is a small piece missing fro it but will try and get a brass fitting.
My dad said he has heard you need two sets of pliers to do the brass one.
Any simple instructions would be great, I have a piece of copper with plastic end on that plumber gave me so do I just attach the brass thing to the lead and then put the copper in the top and tighten.
Thanks

I have used leadloc in the past on lead pipes with no problems at all and it was brass not plastic.
They are similar to compression fittings and you need a spanner or water pump pliers to hold the centre whilst you tighten up the nuts, Like this-
using compression fittings0
