Credit rating and debts

Hi, I wonder if anyone has any advice.
I got divorced 7 years ago and was left with about £25k of debt, following some frankly awful career choices I was in a position where I could't afford to pay and suffered badly from depression. I moved house and used a friends bank account to avoid the debt collectors. I am now back to normal and would really like to be able to have my own bank account etc but don't really know where to start, I tried getting a credit score to see what I need to do but couldn't without a bank account. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to get back 'in the game'?

You don't have a credit score/rating. You should open an account somewhere, even a basic 1 then look at checking your credit history.

You can get a postal copy of your credit file from any of the 3 agencies with a postal order for £2.
