MacBook Air mail problem

I use an iMac and a MacBook Air neither of which have given me any problems.
I am unable to send mail from the Air, receiving no problem and can send and receive from iMac.
But it is starting to become irritating when having to go into back bedroom to send a quick email.
It seems, if I remember correctly, to have started when I updated OS X to Yosemite.
I have trawled various apple forums and it seems to be a known problem, but none of the suggested solutions have worked.
Anyone any ideas?
ISP is Orange/EE (but ancient freeserve account if that is relevant.

Most obvious is to ensure all your outgoing mail settings are correct as some mail servers require username/password, some dont, some use the same server URL as the inbound and some dont etc
Outside of that remove the account and add it back on.0 -
Are you using Outlook for Mac, or webmail?0

I thought they'd fixed this.
I had similar issues some time ago, before Yosemite.
Have you Googled the problem?
There are several things you can try, sadly none of them worked for me when I had this issue.
Mail worked fine on the iMac but not on the Macbook. I checked all the settings were identical and still had intermittent issues. It turned out to be a fairly well known issue that only effected some people and Apple seemed at a loss to explain it or fix it.
I solved the problem by installing a different email client and the problem went away, MS Outlook worked perfectly as did Postbox. In the end I stayed with Postbox as I find it a better client than Mail especially as I use Gmail and Apple and Gmail don't always play nicely together. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
