What colour curtains go with yellow walls?

Hi,
I wonder if anybody can advise me. I'm currently living in a small rented flat on a limited budget whilst I pay off debts... I'm trying to make the place look as homely as possible for the time that I will be living here. I love DiY (painting etc) and have been given free reign with a paint brush (within reason) to make a change from a tired looking magnolia walls. Happy days.
In an attempt to lift my spirits I've pained the walls yellow - buttermilk on some and warm yellow (think daffodil) on the other. Not everyones choice, but I love it. Instantly warming and a real mood booster. However, I am struggling a bit with the decor (curtains and soft furnishings) in terms of what colours to pick.
My curtains are a plum colour (not entirely convinced they match the yellow though). I would be grateful for any ideas. I don't want the rooms to look cluttered. Just vibrant and tasteful.. I'm on a budget for the next year, which is also a consideration.
Thank you

Ok thanks. Never considered white as an option, although the skirting boards and door frames are white and look nice against the yellow...
Only downside is I have a very hairy black cat who is likely to brush against the white curtain. Good choice regardless.0 -
white or cream would be my choice. Just look at different daffodils and go for a colour that's in the centre of the flower. Chose the one you like the best would be my way to go. I love daffodils so I bet your room looks lovely and homely xRIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. Thanks. I've got plum curtains up at the moment (bit extreme maybe?). Love both colours. Definitely going for white/cream. I don't know why I didn't consider that first...0

I'd go for neutrals to tone it down, with curtains or blinds in ivory/calico, perhaps with a voile or cheesecloth panel, sand/hessian for cushions and a splash of contrasting colour such as blue for a rug or stripe in the cushions. A pale neutral throw over a sofa would also fit well.
Yellow can be very lifting and classy or can look sickly and overpowering. If you are permitted to put up pictures or posters, go for gentle beachy seascapes (think John Miller) or soft landscapes with light mounts and wood frames.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
Good advice - go to a website called Houzz (they also have an iOS app).
You can find pretty much anything there in terms of interior design pictures and ideas. Just type "yellow walls" and see what comes up0 -
Blue (the opposite side of the colour wheel to yellow) should go well, as long as you choose an appropriate shade. If you have a soft yellow, then choose a soft blue, or a vibrant yellow choose a vibrant blue.0
