Ebay has given me an unpaid item strike for money refunded goods!!!!

I posted this thread about 6 weeks ago, here is the link :- http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=496376
about buying an 8gb pen drive that turned out to be fake.

Anyway, I sent the item back and my money was refunded via PayPay on July 10th. This morning I had an email from Ebay that the buyer had start a dispute saying that I had won the item, but hadn't paid for it. I responded giving Ebay all the information about the payment and my Paypal receipt etc, but I have just had another Email to say that Ebay had given me an unpaid strike against my account and that the sellers fees was being refunded.

The seller seem to have open the dispute just to get their fees back, but how can Ebay ignore the fact that I paid and got a refund through Paypal and give me a strike. As you can imagine, I am absolutely fuming about the whole thing and I am about to appeal against this, but is there anything more I can do?

More and more people seem to be having bizarre problems like this with ebay - I can only suggest that you try live help for an explanation.
Are you sure it really was from ebay - you didn't respond through an email link? Is the dispute actually there in 'my ebay'?

  • it should tell you on the email how to dispute the strike , if i mind right all you have to do is give them the transaction number from paypal and the strike will be lifted.

We bought an item that was faulty, the seller was great with communication about the problem and told us to return the item for a refund. We then had an email from Ebay saying an unpaid item dispute was resolved and would not go against our account. Haven't had this with past refunds, is unpaid disputes the norm now?

Yes I got an email from Ebay and there are 2 alerts about this in My Ebay.

I have appealed against the strike and given Ebay details of the email the seller sent offering the refund and details of payments I made.

    Thanks for all your suggestions.
  • I have had this many, many times!!

The Sellers open an Unpaid Item Dispute to cause trouble when they have to have refunded the Buyer.

Ebay will want the full email from you - from paypal - telling you that you have paid - including the full email headers - instructions will be sent to you from Ebay. Then they will remove the Unpaid Item Dispute.

They have done this for me when a strike has been given, so don't worry about it.

Firstly, a seller should open UPI Dispute but state the both parties wish to mutually agree not to complete the transaction as the buyer has return the item.

I guess the problem is that some buyers, don't agree & therefore the seller doesn't get they FVF's back.

Your best option is to wait until the seller has given you the UPI Strike & appeal against it by giving eBay the Paypal payment details

When i first heard from Ebay that an unpaid item dispute had been opened and asked for me to respond, I gave them the full details of the Paypal receipt. but they gave me strike anyway. The other thing I forgot to point out is that it was a BIN item and I paid straight away. I have appealed and given Ebay the full Email I had from the buyer offering me the refund, so I am waiting to hear from them.

I will let you all know the outcome.

Many thanks for your help and suggestions.

    We had a similar situation.

Its the seller whom closed the UPI Dispute & therefore issued the UPI Strike & got his FVF's back.

I would also email the seller & explain that they've refunded you & you want the strike removed, although eBay most likely will removed it anyway, as you had paid
  • ebay will remove it after reviewing information you have provided them with, happened to my buying account few weeks back, seller didn't select mutual agreement option, then closed dispute after i replied to give me a strike.

problem here is that the seller has too much control and the dispute is not reviewed by ebay before the strike is awarded.
