Trying to decide what styling products to use for my hair, and I really don't know the difference, there is:
Putty
Clay
Cream
Paste
Gel
Wax ..
I have shortish hair, and just want to try out different styles, and see what is best for me, so please tell me what you'd recommend and why..
In the past I've used gel/wax but I have to really use a hair dryer to keep it firm into position..
Thanks for advice.

if you have a stockist near by, i.e. a salon or sally hair and beauty supplies/capital, try l'oreal tec web for a firm look that looks more natural.
Otherwise - wax will give definition, gel will seperate and give a wet look, cream ( depending on its strenth) will gice strong hold ( try beyond the zone spike it or indola glue, or osis products), clay gives a firmer matt look.£2 Savers club £0/£150

Thanks very much, I'll try out the Tec Web.. Looked on eBay, and £9 150ml!
Two questions:
1. Will it hold itself, or do I need to use something like hair dryer
2. Is it something that I can play around with until I find a style I can like, and it will stay?
Sorry if questions seem bit complicated!
PS. I'm assuming from user your girl/lady.. how'd you have the knowledge?0 -
I've yet to find a perfect product. I have short hair at the moment, and tend to use a clay (You don't need a lot of it, and it's good to warm a small amount under a hair dryer before applying to the hair). I also use an indola wax stick, but I tend to rub some into my fingers before applying.
The key is:- whatever product you choose, don't over do it. Use small amounts.
If your like me, and are no good at hair styles then good luck0 -
I bought this
http://www.krewcomb.com/stylingpre.htm
because it was supposed to do the job of all the products you mentioned. All the family use it now and you only need a tiny bit.0 -
Hi
No you dont need to heat it, though they do have prodcuts in their range that you can ( called tec hot range) if you prefer.
Alternative and similar but cheaper - Indola again - they have a range called strong, or a current line thats an in/out range by KMS and hair play. All of the products in it are really good and theres a gel and wax that you can both play around with. (about 2.99 bOGOF)
Also - Well high hair products one called bouncy dip, although agai about £8 but all men that come in the store love it
or - if you re only looking for a hold try product called black and white which is a waz. You can also get this from boots but its cheaper to get t from wholesalers ( you can go in them too!).
PS Im a store manager at one. PM me if you need more info. I can send you some free mini dax waxes if you want i have a couple left.£2 Savers club £0/£150

Hi,
Thanks very much for all your help.. I kinda need to find something I can get before Saturday (friends wedding on that day). I've ordered the Tec Web so will try that out first.
But basically what I'm looking for is, something I can put on dry hair and play around with, until I find something I'm happy with... and then for it to stay firm for the rest of the day.
I don't know how that's possible if at first I'd want to play around with it, and then to stay firm but I'm sure there are products around?
Thanks for your offer of the wax, not sure if it's worth trying or not? What do you think.
What I do know, is there is paste/putty/cream/gel/wax and I don 't know what I need?! Once I find something, I can stick with it..
Thanks again.0 -
Putty and Clay can sometimes hold very well. Depends on how much you put on. Have you tried a firm hold one? They are good, need to dampen the hair a little then apply.
It's difficult to find the right one, there are so many these days.
If your still not sure, next time you have your hair cut, after washing, ask them what the best strong hold product is for your type of hair. Please do not feed the Trolls!0 -
My hair is short and spikey and I use the Shock Waves clay stuff that comes in a little green tub, it's expensive, and for a while Superdrug did their own version but not sure if they still do it or not.
I've tried almost everything out there to keep my spikes up and the Shock Waves stuff is the only one that works, it dries really quickly and doesn't leave your hair rock solid.0 -
Yeah I agree, clay is good for holding hair without it looking like a wig. It has a matt finish, so if you are wanting a shine to your hair, you would need to use a shine spray too.
Waxes have less of a hold. I rekon any clay/putty products are your best bet, !!! you can play about with these products.0 -
Got the Tec Web, found a nice style and liked it but it doesn't hold for long..
Need to find a hair spray (I think), I know there are loads round.. Fudge Skyscraper, Fudge Cement.. not sure what others are good.. wanted a nice hold.
But was I wondered was by using a hair spray would it actually effect the style in anyway..?0
