IPad File Storage Query

Hi, I have been lucky enough to win an IPad and I'm just getting to grips with the wondrous beast. It has come with Office and when I'm trying to save a file I have created, I'm unsure as to whether there is a 'C' drive where I should save my file (as I would normally do on my Windows laptop).

Have become very confused as within Word the IPad seems to be giving me the option to automatically save file to 'One Drive' (which is loaded on the machine) but my son informs me that I have ICloud on it (Apple's storage?) and thinks I should be using that, but it doesn't appear to be an option.

When I opened a file on my laptop and made some changes this didn't seem to update it on the IPad when I opened it on there. Didn't know this would be so confusing, trying not to be an old technophobe but I'm a bit stumped by all this! Can anybody explain the workings of this to me please? I'm not sure what I should be saving and to where!!!
Cheers, Jack

I Pads don't have a file system like a PC, you simple save the file to the device and that's it.

Typically you can save the device or One Drive within Office apps, OneDrive is Microsoft's Could, iCloud is Apples cloud but iCloud is more likely to be used for backing the entire device up to rather than one off files as you work on them.

An iPad is basically a smartphone with a large screen. "One drive" is a good option as it won't use up storage space on the iPad itself. You could also install Dropbox and use that for secondary storage if you can't afford to risk losing files.

Ah, okay, thank you, this is becoming much clearer now. So presumably both options offer a secure way to store my files? My son seemed to think there had been security issues with personal files being 'accessed' by others on Cloud based storage systems...

No security issues as long as you setup a good password etc..

Thats a good point but its highly dependant on the App. Microsoft Apps tend to only allow you to save to the device OR Microsofts cloud. Similarly something like the inbuilt Photo's can save to Apples cloud but NOT to Microsoft's.

Other Apps can only see the device and no-ones cloud. I dont use DropBox, but suspect that will only be able to save files from the device to the Box cloud, not act as a conduit to get things directly to a place.
