Worm your way outa this...

Hi

By Joe Casad

Moose malware wants your Twitter credentials,...

... a worm that affects Linux-based home routers and embedded gadgets. ... Moose does not install backdoors or rootkits ... intercepts web cookies and uses them to hijack social media accounts. Most of the attack traffic targets Twitter and Instagram.

Basically it seems to brute force the password (using a set list of common passwords) on your Linux based router hardware and then setup a proxy via it's own IP address so that it can carry out a "man in the middle attack".

I would speculate that it's primarily attacking routers that have the factory username/password combinations on the user interface (usually Admin/1234 or Admin/Admin etc), which lets face it, is extremely common. Nobody in my street has a custom SSID on their WiFi, which tells you how many people ever bother to go into their router settings.

Setup a strong password on the user interface (NOT on the WiFi) and you should be ok.
