Help!!!!
My patio door has broken. Its the metal catch and locking devices at the top and bottom that seem to be not falling into place.
Its the type that you pull the whole door towards you and then slide across, (as it has the facility to open at the top for just ventilation).
Any ideas, it sounds like a very expensive job????!!!!
(not to mention the house actually not being safely locked up now, good job we have dog;) )

It's actually called a tilt & turn door that you have, I only know because I have one too.
Last year I needed my door adjusted as it had dropped slightly & I was charged £70. Adjustment needed to be made to the internal workings to align them again. It sounds as if your door could have shifted too if the locks are failing to engage. Very recently the handle on my door sheared off in my hand as I was closing the door & it cost me £45 to have a replacement fitted.
I hope the prices I've quoted for my repairs will shed some light on how much yours will be likely to cost. What you could do is phone one of the window repair people from your local paper & give them a rough outline of the problem & ask if they have any idea of likely cost, they should at least be able to tell you if there is a mininum charge for call outs & how long they feel the job may take. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Yikes Cattie.............I could well do with out that expense, but thanks for your detailed reply.
To be fair, patio doors get a lot of wear and tear in a family with children, I suppose.
