New Gas Supply - How much?

Hi
I have contacted UU for a meter to be installed and await the application form.
The house has a gas pipe but no gas. It is, apparently, D&P - dead and purged. The pipe was installed when gas was introduced to the estate but the house has never had a gas supply.
How much should I budget for the house to be connected and a Gas Meter fitted?

My parents are having gas installed soon from national grid. They are paying £476 and will end up with a capped off gas pipe with no meter in a box outside. i have rang a few suppliers who will fit a gas meter for free.0

Hi Gorgeous, it cost me £300 ten years ago to take a gas pipe from the meter at the front of the house to the back of the property where it fed into the back hall. Also included two spurs , one into the lounge and one directly thru the wall into the kitchen. This was a Corgi man and the pipes were installed on the outside (compulsory, he said). Included a certificate. Depends probably on how much pipework and spurs.0

United Utilities will charge you £497+VAT if there is gas outside of your house. Included in this they will fit a meter box outside, either on the wall or in the ground, whichever you choose. Or, if you prefer they will terminate the pipe inside your house and you can have the meter fitted there. However, UU wont fit the meter. You have to choose which of the supplying companies you want to use and then get them to fit the meter for you. There will be no charge for having the meter fitted.0 -

Spot on with the price. However, I have a plastic box and I checked - there is gas to the box. So, they want £497 for nothing. Lying, cheating scum. Lucky I checked as I have saved £497.

You lucky blighter!
However, I did make an error, ie it is £497 but it seems that it is zero VAT rated.0 -
SGN (Scottish Gas Networks) wanted £6000 to connect me to the gas main 21 metres away, I asked them to confirm the quote was not a mistake and it wasn't. As you have probably guessed, I declined to accept the quote and am now investigating having an Electric wet central heating system installed.0

You don't have to accept their quote. Apparently you can organise the work yourself. Though this would be a tad difficult I know.0
