Basically i am wondering if anybody knows of anywhere i could get help via the way of a financial advisor in Scotland.
To cut a long story short i went down the CAB route for debt and they told me i need to get myself a financial advisor to sort out my mortgage and debt into a more workable solution...because i haven't missed any payments but have been very close to they said i couldn't do a DAS which i would rather not if there was another solution.i guess what i am asking if anyone knows of anyone or any charities that do this for free up here as the last thing i need is to be paying someone £90 an hour and get me into more bother. The local CAB gave me a list but would not recommend anyone on it as it wasn't allowed.I have a mortgage of £45000 on a house worth at last valuation £70000 maybe more now ,which i pay £375 a month for and unsecured debt of £32000 from various cards, some very good rates and the worst 23%.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi,
What kind of advise are you looking for ?
If your paying out too much each month, there are numerous options you can try, cut back on your outgoings, and/or try to increase your income, make sure your on the best tariffs for all your utilities, phone etc, basic common sense things like that.

You may find it helpful to post a statement of affairs so people can see where any potential savings can be made.

Ok, well if its mortgage advice you need, then there is a mortgage board on the forums, or search for an independent financial adviser on the web.
If its debt advice, you've come to the right place, an SOA will help everyone to understand your situation better.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. You could feed your info into the step change online calculator and see what it recommends.:beer:0

Hi Desperado88
I think you need to realise that the advice you get will depend on the question(s) you ask. What are you trying to do here? Convert your unsecured debt into secured debt? Rarely a good idea as lots of people on here can testify. Consolidate debts? Again rarely a good idea unless you've addressed why you are in debt and cut up the credit cards so you can't run up more debt.
Take a deep breath, make a cuppa and do a SOA. If you post it here then people will help you. Even if you don't post it you know what you are starting with. Read this forum and you'll see that you aren't alone but also what mistakes others have made. Then you can start to come up with a list of questions you want to ask us, SC, CAB etc
Good luck

Hi
If you need ‘financial advice’ for something like a mortgage rather than advice on unaffordable debt options it’s best to search for an IFA or Independent Financial Adviser.
There is an MSE article here which you might find useful:
www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/best-financial-advisers
They suggest links to a few websites you can use to search for IFAs such as www.unbiased.co.uk and www.vouchedfor.co.uk
As far as I’m aware most IFAs will charge you a fee for their services, although there are links to some offers in that article for free consultation sessions.
If you would like a second opinion on your options for dealing with your debts you’re welcome to call National Debtline on 0808 808 4000. If you call from a Scottish landline you’ll get routed to a Scottish trained adviser or we can arrange a call back if you need to call from a mobile.
