Ring them. Tell them you disagree with their figures and make a formal request for the decision to be looked at again.

Yes it's what they usually do. Finalise without giving you a chance to explain why your figures were different.
Don't bother ringing, just send them a mandatory reconsideration with the evidence (ie pension statement). Send it registered/signed for so you have proof of delivery. Form is here:

Hi thanks for your replies, I rang them got a nice guy he changed the figures to what I said with a note saying I had all documented evidence to back this up. He said I would probably hear back from them but it would take a few weeks. So I will have to wait and see. will let you know.0
