User reviews of Nissan Qashqai are so bad - what to go for instead?

I feel this applies regardless of the car and is therefore a moot point.
What however does make a difference, is that people will believe the hype even when their chosen car is misbehaving, especially if the car has an undeserved good reputation.
Excuses like "it's costing me a fortune, i'm so glad it's not another brand/model".
Its misleading if not taken in context. If you go on Ebay and look at a majors sellers feedback and just select the 'bad' tab it looks alarming to see 200 complaints in a row. But if they are shifting 20,000 items a year thats a pretty good satisfaction rate of 99%.
Do the same with someone selling 500 a year and they have only 20 negatives and it looks much better but they actually have 4 times the dissatisfaction rate.
As said, people post negative comments more often than positive so the volume of negatives on a very large selling item can look alarming.0 -

Thing is, I read all the long term owner reviews by the car journos as well as user reviews. One thing I will say, is I've found those reviews in the past mirror my experience of cars. E.g. both my Smax and the BMW had the same faults/service experience as the longer term reviewers had with their test models. I agree there are a hell of a lot of people who have bought them - there are 2 on my tiny cul de sac. Both are largely happy with them but are only using them to scoot around town. No longer journeys, motorway driving etc. Tbh what is really putting me off is the apparent noise when you drive on the motorway plus all the rattles. I know that would do my head in. Even the Smax and the Alhambra were relatively quiet cars and the BMW practically purrs so moving from that, to a very very noisy car will not work. I will test drive it though I imagine I'm unlikely to be allowed to test drive it at speed
Will put ix35 on my list - it wasn't on there already so thank you
I do understand your reservations and agree although are we talking about the current one (from February 2014) or the old one? the old one certainly had its faults but you if your looking at new then the all new current model is much better than the previous one in almost every way.
Go check out he Mitsubishi ASX too0 -
I have a Suzuki Scross AllGrip- mines a deisel top spec one with 4 wheel drive. Its easy to get in and out of, heated leather seats, glass double size sunroof, typically doing 60+ mpg around town.
Its about £23k
Mine included 3 years free servicing, and the tax and insurance are low too.
Worth a look, it might suit you.:A Goddess :A0 -
I will check out the Mitsubishi too
. BMW won't be fixed for a couple of weeks so I have plenty time to check them all out before I can sell that one grrrrr. The Suzuki/Hyundai look much the same don't they.
I haven't seen many reviews for the new model Qashqai but I'll look - you'd hope they would have fixed those persistent issues wouldn't you!0 -

And that was without a Yeti spare wheel which the IX already had onboard. If you order the spare wheel option its really dire in the Yeti as they add another false floor in the boot and raise it even higher, very little left.
Those quotes were actually specifically for the boot. They didn't mention the spare wheel so something to look out for, thanks.0 -

My previous car was a Corolla, the Verso is higher up, much nicer driving position for me."I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by."0 -

I tried most these vehicles on extended tests (perk of job) when looking for my last vehicle.
Suzuki lent me an S-Cross for a week and I quite liked it in many ways, its excellent value and very low on company car tax and fun to drive. But its seat is barely any higher than a normal car (although the roof is) I took the tape measure to the seat base and the ground. Its also very light and a bit skittish on the motorway which gets tiring and grinds, steering is permanently too light, better as an urban car in my opinion. Boot is a smidge bigger than a Qashqai and its very nippy. Ride isn't especially comfortable and quiet though, jumping in any of the other cars mentioned and they feel a lot more solid and planted.0 -

Why people buy the Nissan version when the Renault is cheaper and the same car puzzles me.
It's built by Renault and it will last like one.
See scrap yards for details.
The Quashqai is made in Sunderland. Do Renault have a plant there?
My parents have one and they are very happy with it.0 -
Dacia Duster or Logan. You can have a full-spec model c/w Nissan B3 4WD system and still have change from £20k.
The Quashqui is not a rebadged Renault. It is a vehicle designed by the Renault-Nissan-Daimler Alliance. It uses a mix of Renault and Mercedes engines depending on model.
Other vehicles to consider are the Fiat Doblo, Citreon Berlingo and Vauxhall Zafira.Never Knowingly Understood.
