Virgin won't do balance transfer from Amex

The balance transfer on the Virgin card mentioned in the latest MSE email does not work if you want to transfer an existing Amex balance!
Online, my card number was rejected as 'not a valid CC number'.
I telephoned Virgin and it was confirmed as a known problem, they “would not like to give an idea of when it would be resolved” !!!
It appears that an arrangement with Amex has not been agreed, rather than an IT problem.

A lot, if not most, credit cards don't let you transfer balances from Amex cards, I'm afraid.0

I've known people who have got it to work when they add an extra 0 onto the card number to make it 16 digits.0
