Sound won't work on my computer!

Hello,
I really would appreciate some help here!
My PC sound won't work. I've tried troubleshooting but nothing works. There are a few Yellow question marks in devices though and when I checked System information in says there are five problem devices, all of which say the drivers aren't installed. I don't have discs or anything for them so I can't install the drivers that way. I have tried to update a driver but it goes on about it not being digitally signed.
Any help much appreciated!

If you download/install Everest Home Edition it may help you identify the sound devices and advise on where drivers can be downloaded from. Alternatively, if you (manually) identify the sound device you can try searching for drivers on Google.
If the driver is not digitally signed it may be because it's old or not recognised by MS, but this should not usually cause a problem.0 -
All looks really complicated! I'm not quite sure what to do.
I've looked at system info and it says Intel(r) AC'97 audio controller0 -

Finding and installing drivers can look complicated and can also be a bit fiddly but the trick is to identify the device that is missing the driver and search for the driver in google etc...
It looks like you have on-board sound - do you know the make/model of your PC? If you can find that we will have a search and see if we can find, and link you to, the correct drivers.
Everest, as cledor said, will enable you to identify your PC and motherboard/sound chip if you don't know...0 -
Well I will ask the stupid question.

Does anyone else use your computer? I ask because I had no sound even when I turned the volume icon up full. Couldn't work it out so asked DD if it had been working for her. She said yes but she had turned it down while on the phone. She turned it down on the screen buttons. I didn't even know there were volume buttons there:o

Yeah they do but it's my dad and he can type and use the internet just;)..that's about it!
I've downloaded Everest and it says my sound card is
82801FB ICH6-AC '97 audio controller.
The computer is IBM thinkcentre that's what it says on the front. and Intel inside, pentium 4.
I clicked on the download info through everest but it says page not found.
Also there's a blue cross next to 3D accelerator but when I click on the downloads for that it shows me a million downloads and I have no idea which one to choose, let alone know what chipset is!
I've looked on google but that's a load of mumbo jumbo or the sites where people have asked the question it's not answered!
I'm getting really frustrated now!! :mad:0 -
Oh and it says motherboard it Intel-Grantsdale-G i915G/GL/GV0

Is it one of these Thinkcentres? If so, the audio drivers are half way down - follow instructions...

Only install if you have one of the listed models...0 -
