Spikes/security for side entrance gate

We have a problem with foxes entering our garden and believe it or not, I have seen them scrambling up and over our short, wooden side entrance gate.

Unfortunately there is no 'door frame' around the gate to secure some anti-climb spikes/nails etc to, so does anyone have any suggestions on how to put something in place?

Oh go on then, there must be a reason why they are doing all that in your garden, discover what that is and the solution becomes much easier.

Putting spikes, taller gates in etc will not keep foxes out

they're doing all this because they are inquisitive and also territorial as they used to be able to get in through a broken fence more easily.

needless to say, this is no longer their 'turf'.
