Thanks for all your kind comments.
My OH does know about the problem and the size of the debt. She is going to stand by me, (god only knows why), I only hope that I would be so understanding if I was in her position. This is not the first time I have put her through something similar. I lost our first house because of a 10yr heroin addiction, however I should add that I am two years clean from drugs. Although all I basically did was swap one addiction for another.
I will complete the SOA shortly.
Thanks again
Just wanted to say that you are an inspiration coming off heroin after 10 yrs. My brother was a heroin addict for 14 years and is now clean and has a good life. It can be done but its the hardest thing i have ever witnessed. If you can come through that you can come through anything and I take my hat off to you. Can I just ask do you feel depressed? As in the beginning of my brother being clean he felt like there was a black cloud (thats how he described it) and he spent alot of time just lying on the couch. Anyway as they are now using St Johns Wort (herbal tablets) in some drug programmes in America we asked him to try them. He swears by them and says the cloud has been lifted.
I just wondered if you are maybe depressed and that is what contributed to you swapping your addiction to a gambling addiction?0 -
Hi losteverything. It isn't as hopeless as you think. Honestly! There will be a way out of this.
I would strongly suggest that you contact one of the debt help charities. Either CCCS or Payplan for some professional advice. I used CCCS myself and they even have an online option, where you just fill in all your details and it will give you a solution or solutions to consider.
They might be able to help you set up a debt management plan, where you will pay an affordable amount to your creditors every month. I'm not so sure about your secured loan though. I think you may have to keep making the agreed payments to that, since it is secured on your home. But as I said, I'm not sure. They will be able to give you professional advice.
Another good site to look at is www.whatsthecost.com There is lots of helpful stuff on there. Particularly the snowball debt calculator. If you put in all your credit cards and loans and their APRs it will calculate the best way to pay them back so you can avoid paying so much in interest. It will also be able to tell you how long it will take you to become debt free! All the articles on this site are very helpful too. Particularly the ones about transferring credit card balances. Also try the old style forum here as they always have lots of advice about meal planning and cutting your food budget. If you pick up some old style tips you could probably cut your food bill by quite a bit, giving you extra to pay towards your debts.
Good luck!0 -
Hi Losteverything just want to add my support to this link.
We all have something that we use as a crutch. Some drink, some smoke, some do drugs or gamble or some of us compulsivly overeat. It doesn't make us bad people.
The best thing you've done is come on here, they'll help you I promise.
