Hi I am new to all this I wonder if someone can help me, today I recievd a letter off SSE about my gas saying I owed them money, thought this was strange as I am a PAYG customer only pay for what I use, no standing charge, so I call them, explain and he said it had something to do with the amount it charges me for the gas, the man said it was wrong and said he would send me a new card which would rectifythe problem though they will charge me more. He said because for whatever reason changes hhadn't been made to my Meyerand I have an outstanding bill of £120, I am not quite sure about any of it, can they change how I am charged via a card I am at a,lost.
There are standing charges for prepay gas (unless Ebico supply prepay) all the details are on your meter if you scroll thro after pressing and holding the red button with your card inserted. You can check the tariff on the meter and weekly standing charge. If you don t credit the meter very often there can be a build up of standing charge which will show on the first red button press as "owed " Debts are loaded onto screen 26

Sounds like they failed to update the meter with the correct tariff information and now you owe them.

I would consider asking them to write it off as it was their mistake.

You need to make a formal written complaint first, if you don't get anywhere then escalate it to the ombudsman.

Would recommend EDF. No problems with them and when I moved home they were efficiency itself. Unlike a previous experience with Scottish Power

I can find cheaper suppliers for my elderly neighbour - Scottish Power have just messed up a simple request for him - but I don't want him jumping from the frying pan into the fire (especially as I am with the Co-op and can't get into my account any more!)

Has anyone got a brilliant energy supplier to recommend?

Consult a comparison site (or preferably a few) to find the best deal for you ... or in this case your elderly neighbour.

Many comparison sites allow you the option to list in order of customer service, rather than the cost, if that is more important to you :)

I thought a previous supplier was pretty good - billing and prices were excellent and I wondered what all the bad reports were about. Till I switched and then the problems started. I think sometimes it only becomes evident when you want a bit of interaction about something.

Your post is misleading, false and not authorised. ACN and similar schemes are network selling, not to be advertised to strangers on forums.
energy worker, you need to remove the quote from your post. When the :spam: post is removed it will still be visible through your post.

You are right in what you say, but just hit the :spam: button next time. :)

Unfortunately, most suppliers are in an administrative mess at the moment.

That said, you could have a look at Ovo.

  • We've just this week moved to Good Energy from sse. it looks on paper as if our bills are going to be halved. My husband is so astonished with this prediction that he's going to ask if they've got the facts right. If they have, it will be brilliant. They are a 'green energy' supplier, which as well as a cheaper tariff, was one of the things we were looking for
