Glossing skirting board

Hi

I am buying softwood skirting from travis perkins , i plan to gloss it pre-install (a bedroom) can i just gloss straight onto the wood , or do i need to prime it ?

Prime knots zinsser or knotting.
Prime, undercoat or primer undercoat.
Top coat.

Is the way to go.

Prime, undercoat and 1 or even 2 coats gloss with light sanding between each coat. Preparation is the key to a good finish. You may even need to use knotting solution depending on the quality of the wood
