Very High Electricity Bill

Hi there
I'm new to this forum and have a qu about electricity and Gas bills.

I pay on a 3 month basis and my last bill was around £1,400. I contacted Powergen and they took my readings. The electricity one was more or less accurate but the gas was overestimated.

They have now recalculated the amount making reductions to cover any price increases over the year however the cost is still around £1,400. I have been told this is because over the year my bills have been underestimated.

I know this is my own fault for not checking the meter readings however someone came out a couple of times in the year to do this but it seems those readings were never used.

My question is whether there is anything I can do about this? I know I can pay it off monthly however I still feel it is a lot to pay and that we haven’t been using that much gas and electricity.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

    Welcome to the forum.

Technically you are liable for all the £1,400 - assuming it is an accurate calculation.

If you read through this forum you will find that if you 'make a fuss' write to energywatch etc you might get a reduction. Although it would appear that Powergen are not the most responsive to that approach.

The meter readings not being used, often happens as the 'computer' rejects readings that it 'thinks' unrealistic. However it should have been followed up.

That complaint(rejected readings)would be your best line of approach.

Thanks for the advice. The bill has been reduced by £100 I will speak to them again about the rejected readings.
