House/contents insurance question.

Hello.
My dad has got new insurance from Tesco bank which starts on 3/06/2015.
I was looking at his policy details and I noticed that for 5 lever mortice locks and the windows have key operated locks. His house doesn't have mortice locks only upvc door locks that are over 20 years old but have multi-lock door systems in them.
He must of ticked the box when he done the insurance but I done a dummy quote and the option for mortice lock is yes or no but if you tick no there is no other option for the type of locks your door has.
Will he have to call them and find out and then pay extra for it? His 14 days runs out in Wednesday. The duumy quote I did was an extra £17 so I think nearer the day will cost more.

As the policy hasnt incepted yet then most insurers will allow you to do alterations without an admin fee so the only thing he is likely to have to pay is the difference in premium. How much difference it will make depends on his area but as you've seen the impact tends to be low.0

Phone them and ask about it. A lot of insurers have a single "5-lever mortice deadlock OR multi-point locking" clause (covering both types of lock). The UPVC doors do have multi-point locking which is normally sufficient. Check the full policy wording for their lock definitions, and phone them if in any doubt.
If on the phone they tell you his locks are fine, get the name of the call handler and note the date and time. That way, if there's any query in the future, you can ask them to pull their call recording and listen to what you were told.0 -
Good on you for actually reading the cover, so few people would bother checking their documents.0

Thank you for replying.
I have had a look at the policy online booklet but I cant find anything about types of locks/security neede.

Well I have just rang them and the "mortice locks" part does cover multi-point locking systems and the windows have key locks which they do.
He told me that Tesco have a lot of customers calling about this question as its a bit confusing and they should change that question when people try to get a quote from them.
Also at the weekend my dad got a mailshot from Tesco saying if he buys combined home insurance b4 23/6/2015 he will get a £30 Tesco gift card.
He has already bought the insurance so while I was on the phone to them I explained this and he took the code reference and applied it and he should get the gift card in 6 weeks so all is good now.
Home insurance £21 cheaper than with Alianz and a £30 gift card if that turns up so a result really.0 -
