Huge difference in cost between airports

It's got very little to do with airport charges. You think one of the busiest and most slot constrained airports in the world (Heathrow) is cheaper to fly to than the ugly sister (Gatwick) or a regional airport (Manchester)?!0 -

Yes indeed.0 -

Lots of different things in play here from local charges and taxes to marketing and competition. Most savvy money savers should see this as a great way to get good value, and occasionally even great bargains, by doing some basic research and shopping around - which in itself can be a fun part of the holiday.0

We shall see, but IAG will no longer have such a big reason to let BA compete on price with Aer Lingus on transatlantic routes from Dublin. They've been keeping the pressure on Aer Lingus volumes and yields for a while now. On the other hand, it's not out of the question that some good deals on Aer Lingus could come up from the UK regions (and Aer Lingus will come back into oneworld). Only time will tell.0 -

The competitive pressure will be reduced but it's worth holding out hope for decent fares sticking around. Iberia still compete strongly with ba on many routes. Though I never flew them before they were merged so I don't know if that competition was significantly reduced?
As they're run as seperate airlines, I'm not sure what leeway they have to commercially damage themselves to protect other IAG airlines?0
