please help confused with halifax PPI

Hi people, I hope someone can help.
ok I wrote regarding two PPI credit card claims, Halifax and bank of Scotland. two years ago they rejected my claim and told me I had no PPI on either card, then two weeks ago I received a letter saying they has mis sold me ppi and a cheque would be posted out straight away. Now I have no idea at all how they calculate their findings but it seems rather low to me. I don't have any original paper work at all, all I know is I had these cards for many years and always paid the minimal balance each month and the balances on each card were over £2500. here is their breakdown.

CARD 1
balance july 2006 £2633.32
balance july 2006 with no ppi £2593.30
difference £40.02
indirect losses £0
8% interest £32.08
gross payment £72.10
less tax £6.41
total redress due £65.69

CARD 2
Balance march 2006 £3352.93
balance march 2006 no ppi £2988.33
difference £364.60
indirect losses £50.00
interest 8% £270.63
gross payment £635.23
less tax £54.12
total redress due £581.11

so my cheque total is £646.80 for the two cards.
I have no idea if this is correct or if I am just being fobbed off. I have not cashed the cheque yet as I don't know what to do. going on what friends and family have received in the past this seems incredibly low and id be so so grateful if somebody could give me any advice..

thank you all
wayne

You would only get back what you paid + any applicable interest, what your friends/family got back is totally irrelevant as they would have paid more in the first place.

If you have no evidence that the payment is wrong you cannot dispute it - it's not a haggling process

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

If you have proof of more PPI paid than they have given you,( it will be on your statements), send copies to them and ask them to take another look.
