I think you have to set up gmail offline on your phone first for them to read gmails also did you ever test try gmail offline by not having wifi or data signal turned on. Also I take it you have cancelled the virgin sim.

    This is from Google

Each user who wants to work offline must do the following to enable Offline Gmail:
Click the Settings link in the top-right corner of Gmail.
Click the Offline tab (available only if Offline is enabled for your domain).
Select Enable Offline Mail for this computer.
Click Save Changes and follow the directions from there.

If you are lucky it will offer the option to "Erase" the device.

Just a quick question. Did you ever use ebay, paypal, web banking etc. on the phone? Safer to change them.

Just because google thinks your phone has not been switched on does not prove it has not been

you possibly are , my phone shows the one I have not deleted from thunderbird and my wifi and mobile are off....

As a test, I turned off data and wifi on my phone and opened the Gmail app. All I saw was a No Network message ... I wasn't able to see anything in the account.

By that I conclude that changing the password will force the login prompt before a user would be able to access anything in the account.

So it is probable that the OP is safe with respect to someone being able to see their emails, unless they had enabled Offline mode per Woody's post.

Oooh you gave me a glimmer of hope there Paddyrg!

Sadly it says: "Location Unavailable Last online May 21st"

I actually lost it on May 23rd, but had switched Data off, and was only using the camera and audio recorder. I have a non smart phone for phone calls and texts. Yes, I'm weird.

I actually think I lost it right outside my house, as I had it in the car on the way home, but not in the flat. And my neighbour downstairs is a convicted thief, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was downstairs, and was half expecting my own address to show up on that Google Find Phone wizardry you introduced me to!

I can't let my neighbour access my email. And I don't want to change my Gmail account, as it is linked to so many HUNDREDS of sites!

Thank you for telling me about this great feature. I will definitely set it up next time.

But do you know if my Gmail account is definitely secure on my phone please?

    thanks

Keep trying, sometimes it takes a while to find the phone. As soon as the finder turns on the internet, it'll be able to get a location.

Also check out the Android location history.

    https://maps.google.co.uk/locationhistory/b/0

Which is ok, but has the slight flaw that it goes mental if you have two devices on the same account.

Anyone now looking at that and feeling concerned? Yes me too..... Android and indeed Apple iOS monitor your location to allow (coming soon) targeted location based advertising.

I wouldn't worry too much, If anyone has it, they will have switched the sim and wiped the phone by now.
Your emails are safe if you changed your password.

Have you searched your car thoroughly? It wouldn't be the first time someone finds the "missing" phone weeks later under the car seat.
