Faulty Built-in Oven Cooke & Lewis

Good morning all.
I wonder if anyone can give some advice on the following.
My son bought a Cooke & Lewis oven from B & Q. After 13 months the main element burnt out. They contacted B & Q who, in fairness, although it was outside the 12 months guarantee, sent an engineer to replace the element. That was less than 12 months ago and they noticed a burning smell from the oven. They switched it off and my son took the oven out and on removing the back-plate saw that there was a great deal of evidence of burning. The electrical connections were burnt and the "insulation packing" also showed signs of burning.
(He also found a loose piece of cable about 6" long not connected to anything)!!!!
He spoke to B & Q and they said he would have to provide an independent engineers report detailing the problems and would then have to go to trading standards to resolve the issue.
He took numerous photo's of the problem and I thought if he went to the B & Q branch which he bought it from they would have to replace it????
Obviously the route B & Q advised will take some time and meanwhile he has no working oven.
Any advice would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Advice - do what B&Q suggest, as that's what the law requires. Read the Consumer Rights link at the top of the page for more information.0
