pay query

Heya,

I have noticed my Payslips and bank statements are different, looks like my Payslips are showing extra net pay due to tax allowance change in April but my actual pay hasn't been increased Any tax implications?

Regards

That is exactly what should have happened, net pay should increase by £10 a month. Basically you now have £600 a year more income that is not taxed.

Are you saying that your payslip says you should have received £x, but your bank statement shows that you have been been paid eg £x - £10? If so, there's something seriously wrong ...

Good point Sue, I hadn't read it that way but now you point it out, that could well be the issue, in which case the OP needs to speak to his payroll team to find out what's gone wrong.
  • Payslips are correct but pay is less by 10, is that a straight forward underpayment?

Your net amount should be what is going into your bank regardless of deductions, tax, pension. If it isn't you need to talk to your manager tomorrow.
  • I understand the net amount should match what's going into my bank, what I am asking is what implications this has on me If this was to continue?

Well, you are not going to let it continue are you?

If the underpayment were to continue you would be £10 out of pocket for each pay period, wouldn't you?

As far as tax is concerned, it depends on what is being reported to HMRC and is included on your P60 next spring.

Are you on a pay system which guarantees you a nett sum?
  • I am gonna sort it, was just curious that's all. I believe it's a misunderstanding between accountant and wage payer as it's not one person who does both.

You would expect your net pay to have increased in April as tax codes went up, and c. £10 per month is about right.

If this carries on, your employer will owe you more and more each month. And what HMRC think you've been paid and what you've actually been paid will be wrong.

Clearly, the person who pays the wages need to communicate with the person working out how much it should be ...

  • Ah ic, so I should not only sort it for My sake but my employer Aswell seeing as if it goes on, it's more of a problem for my employer because of the end of year figures etc? It wouldn't effect me apart from the underpayments though?
