Aqua refused payment then £12 charge?

Hello everybody,
I recently paid off my aqua credit card (or so i thought). As it happened there was 79pence outstanding which I had no idea about. I then started getting a lot of phonecally from thier computer saying I owed money. I went through their phone system, ready to pay the huge balance of 79p, their system then said to me "as the amount is under one pound, no further action needs to be taken" and they hung up the phone. A few days later I have a letter saying they are charging me £12 for not paying the 79p in time.
As its sunday, aqua isnt open, because as everybody knows, no-body buys anything or needs to speak to anybody on a sunday!!!
Many thanks people :)

Call them at the first opportunity and, most likely, they will refund the charge.

However, it's your responsibility to pay what the T&C say, not what their computer says over a phone. There are other ways to make a payment besides a debit card payment over a phone. E.g. a DD or a bank transfer.

    Cheers for the reply.
The only reason it wasnt paid is because I had no idea about it. I have no paper statements and they usually text to say its due, and I phone and pay it. As I had paid the balance off in full i didnt get a text nor did i expect one. I havnt used the card since i paid so i thought it was zero.
I will be phoning them first thing tuesday morning.

T&Cs are not necessarily supreme. A couple of legal principles are relevant here. One is that one party will not interfere with another's performance of their obligations. Another is that of waiver/estoppel. (Simply put: if a party says I'm letting you off, it can be tricky to go back on that.)

It's a trivial matter, but given the OP's experience, it's not necessarily the case that he/she is on the hook for what happened.

call them Bazz, but perhaps this evening you can get the Sort Code and Account Number and make the payment direct to your card account from your online banking?
then, if you can, get a card with a better provider?

    b.aqua Account Number 00282448
c.Your reference number which is your 16 digit account number
then, if you can, get a card with a better provider?
Aqua Reward is one of my preferred cards because off no loading plus cashback on foreign purchases.

Thanks for the replies, I phoned Aqua today and to be fair, the customer service from them was excellent.
Lady told me it was just a glitch and they would never charge 12 quid for an insignificant amount. She also told me that whatever way i tried to pay it, their system would of refused it as it was less that a pound. So even with online banking or paying through their site or over the phone, the result would of been the same. A refused payment.
I dont actually use this card anymore and the 79p I owed, the lady on the phone rased a dispute about it for me. The only reason I had this card was to build my credit score a bit. It seemed to work as I now have a new card with a much better rate.
    Thanks a lot guys :)

I don't think that a bank transfer from your current account can be refused.
