I was in Tesco in Rochdale yesterday and they had these GF barbq type grills reduced from £100 to £40 which I thought was pretty good if anyone was looking for one. I havent posted one of these before so I hope its in the right place. It was on a stand like a barbq and could be taken off and put on the table.

I am so glad that was useful to someone. I have never posted anything like this before incase everyone had seen the offers and thought I was daft but this seemed like a very good deal so I feel better that it was useful. Enjoy it.0 -

We have one, they are great (even though my mate always says it's cheating when we use it for a barbecue, lol). Haven't measured the leccy they use, but there's no way it will cost more than a decent sized bag of charcoal....is there?
PS The only downside of them is non-removeable grill plates but we've devised a good strategy for taking the strain out of cleaning off all the baked on gumk. Whilst the grill is still hot, soak some paper towels in water (and a little washing up liquid if required), place them on the bottom grill plate until it is totally covered, then bring the top plate down and leave for approx 5 mins. Voila! All the gumk will have been magically lifted, then just wipe it down as normal.0 -
The downside of these is that the food comes out bland and tasteless. I've tried a couple (even a big one) and when fully loaded they cool down quickly and dont brown the food. You may have seem the effect i'm describing on a deep fat fryer when you drop the chips and the under temperature light comes on. You can cook the chips for ages without browning and crisping so you end up raising the chips to increase the temp again and then lower them to get them crisp. The same happens with these grills but it's much, MUCH worse! I've cooked steak on them and its goes grey and tough, chicken stays white and becomes dry and stringy by the time it's changed colour. You cant get the brown tasty bits without over cooking.
The biggest joke is the healthy claim because all the fat runs out! Well some of the juice is squeezed out also. In any event if you still have to cook grilling quality cuts and if you grill or bbq them the fat still runs out so why are these so healthy? Haven't got a clue why people think that if the fat runs into a tray that it's some how healthy. If i was offered one for free i wouldn't have it. They are not fit for cooking but well done to the maketeers that have sold so many of these despite them being complete rubbish!Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j

Seriously, I'm not sure you know what you are talking about. The reason why you think the stuff cooked on these is bland and tasteless is becuse your tastebuds have gotten used to tasting the fat in food over the years. You then get a grill that allows you NOT to grill in the food's own fat and voila! It's tasteless to you.0 -

I agree entirely with andrewmoorcroft that the food that comes off them is awful. It is dry, stringy and when you do get the brown bits that would be charred on a bbq or griddle are sort of porous and peel off. Steak looks disgusting. It's gross. You couldn't give one of these away to me.
Last time I checked, food cooked on a barbeque didn't require any additional fat at all but the food tastes a million times better. You'd also get far a better result from using a dry griddle pan, a very light smearing of olive oil on the meat and a good high heat on the cooker.
I suspect you think the food tastes good because you don't know what good food tastes like!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

As a keen caravanner I have been using one of these Georges regularly for years.... I disagree that the food is as bad as described... yes it can come out dry... but like most things, use & experience counts, and my many friends & I have had some gr8 BBQs on sites all over the country.
All that said, I have recently bought an electric frying pan... like this one.

Before you ask... No, I am not selling this... please Look around & find your own... but I find this type great to cook with....:D
very quick to heat up, pan is very light in weight, food is very tasty, ... and most importantly.. .very easy to clean.... much easier than George. ( sorry!)
So sorry folks... I have defected.... & I luv the Palson
Enjoy
