Increasing Security

Hi everyone,

We live on a relatively busy road and as such, I would like to try and increase the level of security in my property. A present my front door is wooden and has one lock on it which appears to be a five lever dead lock?

My back door is PVC and has a log where you pull the handle up to lock it. We have patio doors with the same type of lock.

What can I do to increase the security in my home? Are there any additional locks I can fit to make it harder for somebody to enter? Is it better to invest in burglar alarms or CCTV? Do any services provide a security check (then quote you for any works) or do they tend to just be handy men who can fit locks? Do I call a locksmith to fit any locks I buy or is it a straight forward job?

Any other tips on security would be appreciated!

Get mortice locks fitted at both the top and bottom of your front door.

This is what the police advised me many years ago following a burglary (I subsequently got uPVC doors which had these included).

People tend to ignore burglar alarms, it's better to have the right locks.

Alternatively, you could ask your local police if they still have a crime prevention team who could come out and look and advise. However, with cuts in recent years, this may no longer be available.

I would change the eurolock cylinders in the rear PVC Doors for upgraded ones that are Bump/ Snap//pick proof. The cylinders are easy to change. (Google for them)

It would far better to let the post stay and advise as many people as possible to avoid Security Cam ltd.
After all, who would want to use any security company that has to resort to fake customer reviews in order to obtain business.
