    Whatever they decide to do with it i would encourage them to spread their risk. Maybe look at investing some in a higher risk investment like currency trading or the stock market.

    Sorry, but worst advice ever for those who dont like (or understand ) risk. Far too risky to use currency trading or single shares.

    What Jim and I mean by equities is funds. Which have a large number of shares in different companies or even countries. Which means if any one fails (and you'd lose your bond money if they did too) you dont lose everything.

    Some good general investment trusts, have a record of increasing dividends every year for many decades. Which means, no matter what the market brings, there is a stable income stream (of +4% in some cases) and over long periods the value increases as well.


    A slice of their money invested this way will see them not fall behind to inflation.

    That's the internet for you. The skill is being able to spot the good and bad. Although strangely, you often find people thanking the stupid solutions and ignoring the sensible ones.
