Porch SIPS

Following on from my porch thread I realised that building it out of SIPS could work. Will mean bigger internal dimensions and we could use brick slips on external which we should be able to do even with the minimal room between next doors existing porch. Does anyone have any experience of this? Assume we could construct ourselves pretty easily also saving some labour costs. Why didn't I think of it before!

Not something that has crossed my mind, nor something that I would entertain. I would be reluctant to specify a SIPS house for I do not believe they are good building.
My thoughts are that you need to show Building Regulations compliance with this and this may require detailed drawings and timber sizes. SIPS homes are designed and this is backed up by the manufacturers - hence the end user is unaware of the behind the scenes technical side. Doing this on a DIY proposition is potentially problematic.
If you do this on a Building Notice it is a risky proposition.0 -
? It's a 3m2 additional porch. There's no building regs. The panels are generally about the size that I require and you just build them on top of normal foundations and blocks with normal dpc by the looks of the technical specs. Not sure what the problem is? People build entire houses out of them these days which suggests that there aren't that many issues especially if if basically fitting just 4 of them and roof together. The area is seperate to existing house so it couldnt affect that. Appreciate your concerns but im more interested in if its possible and how easy are they to put together. Especially interested in whether we can add the brick slips to the right side with neighbour. Ta0

The costs may be prohibitive for something of this scale vs a standard construction or timber frame - there's a bit of "Set-up" costs from the factory which pays for itself on a larger building, but not sure it would stack up for a porch!
I've seen brick slips on a type of lath over board before but can't remember the specs, there is a way but again, for what you are looking at would a timber frame with masonry outerleaf not be the most cost effective? you can buy just the panels for about £80-£100 each i would need 5 of them. but there is a hefty delivery cost and im not sure i could clad it first before installing so think we're back to brick.
so you can see better ive attached a pic of what i have and what im proposing...apologies for primitiveness.
As you can see the pvc porch is the issue. so whats the best solution?
I'm also wondering as you can see it will be kind of separate to the existing house and insulation barrier. the other front door is on the return to the right when in the current kind of porch area. Is it worth me insulating the porch? Next door will put plastic or alike in the existing now so the don't see the wall but im still keen to get a reasonable finish. ANy more thoughts welcome if you havent lost the will to live !

Before
I watch this company as they might be doing some work for us. \bricks too on a timber frame.
Hope this helps0 -
are you proposing to build right against the neighbours porch? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

yes that's the idea as their porch is right up to boundary. Their roof overhangs us and the side cill sticks out so minimum is about 150mm away from it. Its not neccasiarily that important as we'd just make it a bit "fatter" if we lose a bit off the length.0

The roof junction detail is going to be problematic unless you can get permission from the neighbour to properly join them, putting a lean to with an end right on the boundary will mean dressing it in with lead or something which will add a cost - assume you have some kind of relationship with them anyway since you are closing off their side window...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. yes I'm sure they'd agree to that although i think we'll possibly be able to come just past the gutter if we build a single skin wall on that side.
food for thought.0
