Thanks. That's what makes me worried because we will be sending to an employer and no doubt they use Word.

If it doesn't go across well when we test it, what options do we have really? Get him to email it from someone else's email? Doesn't look very professional though...

    Thanks for reading.

Send it as PDF where possible. It should look the same no matter what software they're using. Why would anyone need to edit one's CV anyway.

That is unless the employer specifically asked for the C.V. to be in Word format.

I've seen some people use it as an initial filtering tool. If the C.V. is NOT in word format then it's automatically rejected as the applicant can't read and follow simple instructions.

Also most employers I've dealt with want and expect a Word document, unless the application is for a job that requires design or multimedia skills. Then a PDF or a link to their digital portfolio is usually expected.

Employment agencies often send on CVs to clients, removing the applicant's contact details. Or an employer might delete names before printing out the CVs for the short-listing panel to prevent accusations of discrimination.

Thanks for all those replies, I promise to come back to them because I'll need to!

At the moment my brain won't allow it, but I'm wondering on something else. If you or someone had a mention on a few different websites, not exactly articles but large enough intro's about you, would that be something to add to the publications section? ie the website address? Or how do people go about this nowadays, lol (I'm not that old but I don't know anymore!)

'Publications' are for things you've written yourself, and usually occurs only in academic CVs.

Things written about you by other people aren't your own publications.

Thanks Owain Moneysaver, that's what I thought. It's just he has an article in a local mag about him and some bits on websites, there's no protocol for those things on a CV? Just checking as I personally think it's good, but I can see that it's not his own work.
