I don't think any cars come with tax any more.
The words "lamb" and "slaughter" keep popping into my head.Je suis sabot...0 -
I have bought all my cars at Manheim since I was 17 (3 cars in 12 years). The cash I saved buying at auction I kept aside in case of any surprise bills. And guess what, I've had nothing wrong. I've bought super high mileage and low mileage, small cars and large
Hang on... That's only a sample size of 3. Hardly statistically significant.0 -
Thanks Mini Bear. Yes, the car I'm after has 11 months Tax and MOT. If I set my max bid really low it's a no brainer. Even as parts the car is worth my bid price!
Fees are likely to be about £550. As for delivery, I think they can deliver to London, but don't know the cost of this. Otherwise I'll just go and collect having transferred funds. The auction's in the morning though so don't know if there's time to organise it all now. I might have to wait for another suitable target.0 -
IT WILL HAVE NO TAX UNDER THE RULES AS OF OCT 2014.
this has been no secret yet people still cannot grasp it.0 -
Yes, I fully understand the Tax is not transferable, but on the DVLA Vehicle license enquiry both Tax and MOT are reported as being present until April 2016, so I was stating the relevant facts as they stand right of this moment, since it paints an overall picture of the vehicle I'm currently researching. I think everyone understands that the new owner has to apply for a new license surely.0

Not all Mayhem auctions are similar and if you are looking for a really desirable, retail age and condition car and you get it at a good price as a privateer, it has most likely came through the wewantanycar route.0

It was a 'Money 4 your Car'. I did more research on it by calling Audi. It had only one owner and full Audi and Bentley service history throughout ownership. It came with practically all the options a TT comes with and most likely was owned by an Audi employee and kept accordingly. The info wasn't clear from Manheim so I had to dig for it. I chose not to go ahead with it in the end though because I would have liked to be there to hear the engine and view it in person, but I am very interested to see how much it went for. I suspect big traders would only really be interested in 3 year old cars, not 9 year old ones. And the smaller ones would probably steer clear of something with dents and scuffs since it would eat into their margin. That leaves private buyers like me who know how to fix up cars and swap out parts and refurbish themselves. On to the next bargain..0

I've bought all my 4 cars at Manheim Auctions (Leeds) and have never had any major trouble with any of them. They're not going to be in tip top condition or they wouldn't be going through the auction. Expect the odd scratch at least (look at the condition report online which will also show photo's of any problems), the alloys will def be scratched and the condition of the car is listed by grade.
I've been looking at getting another new (new to me) car there recently but I've found the prices have risen and the discounted rate on buying a car either through a garage or privately isn't as great as it was when buying at auction. Especially given the additional fees.
For example I was looking at buying a VW Passat Estate Highline 62 reg, 40k miles, diesel, manual and it went for £2k less than I saw it listed on autotrader 2 weeks later. The same for a BMW 3 Series estate, 61 reg - it went for £2k cheaper again than it was listed on autotrader 2 weeks later. It seems to be the norm now £2k less.
The buyer fees on these would have been a £500+ (£12k+ cars at auction) so this needs factoring in too. Plus the majority don't have MOT's.
I'd have no qualms buying at auction but do thorough research first, use your common sense and I'd suggest taking someone with you.
