santander ppi rejection

I haven't used this forum in a long time - so please forgive me for any errors I may make. I would like some advice if anybody is able to help me. My husband recently tried to reclaim PPI from Santander. At the time he took the loan out he was told he would be much more likely to be accepted for the loan if he took out the PPI. He has sent the letter in, but they have rejected the letter because they say they sent a letter back in 2009 asking if PPI had been missold and then another letter advicing if the letter was not responded to the matter would be closed. Neither of these letters was ever received. The copy of the letter sent to us was a generic letter with no dates on - but there is no way this letter was ever received. What are our next step? If any? Thank you

Is there any evidence to back up that allegation? Its one of the weakest complaint reasons and very few complaints like that succeed on that particular point due to lack of evidence.they have rejected the letter because they say they sent a letter back in 2009 asking if PPI had been missold and then another letter advicing if the letter was not responded to the matter would be closed. Santander did send out timebar letters. You get three years from that letter to make a complaint. After which you are barred from complaint.
They dont have to prove receipt. As long as the address is correct, that is fine. If the address was wrong, then you would not have got the letter and they cannot activate the timebar.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
