Windows Media Player

Does anyone know how I can clear out the library/ playlist. When I drop down the playlist a lot of tracks come up that are no longer on the drive. I'd like just to see the ones that are still there if poss.
Thanks

PowerToys for Windows Media Player enables you to do it.

    Alternatively you could do this:

    1. Open Notepad.
    2. Paste in the following code...

    REGEDIT4
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\RecentFileList]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\RecentFileList]

    3. Save file as "cleaner.reg"

    4. Just double-click afterwards to erase most recently used list.

Would that only work for the recent file list, which is different from the playlist?

If it was the recent file list, then you could just go to Tools, then Options, click on Privacy and near the bottom of that page, click on 'Clear History' & 'Clear Caches' and here you can also untick the 'Save File and URL history in the Player'.

If it was the playlist then as far as i'm aware it is just right-click and select Delete or Remove. Unless anyone knows an easier way?

It mentions this on the web page:

    Clean Up Media Library
This feature will remove obsolete entries from your Media Library for music that can no longer be found. It also updates the locations of files that have been moved. For instance, if you deleted your music files or moved them to a different location after they were added to the Media Library, this option removes the reference for those files from the library or updates the location of the files.

...which should at least solve Party_Animal's dilemma of tracks that are no longer on the drive.

    Thanks for pointing that out.
