Letter from BT with a PIN

Strange as I have no memory of asking for one. The letter says it is for setting up one of my BT services, whilst simultaneously telling me not to worry if I had not asked for it. WTH is it all about?

Was it for Smart Talk or whatever their "Use your BT tariff on your mobile" app is called?

Hmm! Doubt it as I use Tesco PAYG.

That wouldn't affect Smartalk. We have it, and are also on Tesco Mobile.

The letter must give some indication of which BT services it is for. Simple answer may be to ask BT about it, or if you are sure then just ignore it.

A quick Google reveals plenty of reasons why BT might be sending you a PIN. However, as I said originally, it's most likely to be for a service they offer as part of whichever bundle you have with them. For example, one of their TV services, Smart Call, Parental Control, that sort of thing.

It's been a while since I activated the Smart Call on my phone, but I seem to remember that they needed to send me a letter to confirm that I was happy for my husband to have access to it (I was the account holder). There might have been a PIN in it, but it was a long time ago and my memory is not what it was.

BTW, it doesn't matter which network your mobile phone is on - Tesco, Vodafone, EE or any of the others - you can put the Smart Call app on your phone and use it to make your mobile behave like your landline. As an example, if you get free weekend calls with BT, open up the phone app on weekends and use your mobile to get free weekend calls through the Smart Call app.

If you're worried, get in touch with BT and ask them. That's probably your best bet.
