Hi there. I made a booking on booking.com and inadvertently went ahead with the whole booking (I just wanted to see what the final price would be after all charges). I have tried to contact the website and the hotel but they will not budge. This is annoying as it has since transpired that there isn't any flights available for the days I have booked unless I go through London which is a pain. The hotel will not budge or even move my dates and this has made me want to stay there even less. I literally contacted booking.com within half an hour of making the booking (I booked it last night). The only details I gave was my debit card and my email and the charge will be made on the date of arrival in September. My question is if I cancel my debit card now and they try to take a payment in September will they be able to take the money from my account? I feel so frustrated at the lack of flexibility from the hotel that they won't even change the dates so at this stage I am happy to cancel my card. Thought there would be some sort of flexibility considering I realised within 5 minutes I made an error.

You contracted, so they are within their rights.
What did you think they wanted the debit card for?
Cancelling the card won't stop your account being debited.0 -
Why did you enter card details just to get a total?Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0

In order to stop the payment you would need to close the relevant bank account. They would still have the right to sue you for the money, although it is highly unlikely that they would bother (and since you told them well ahead of time a court would probably not give them anything like the full amount).
Did you contact them within five minutes of realising that you had made an error?0 -
