Removal company insurance

All three removal companies from which we have obtained quotes have left insurance as an extra. Would you recommend taking this out?

If they are BAR registered, your house insurance will cover the lot in transit. But, check this carefully with insurer first!

You can extend many insurance policies for transit anyway, but it costs. .... Less than the removal firm, normally.
  • One of our removal quotes said they could only insure what they had packed. We're doing most of the packing so I rang our insurers and we are covered for moving the lot anyway, which might also be the case with you.
As a fan of THE NUMBER THREAD, our NUMBER IS £22,000 a year = FREEDOM
Amended 2019 - new NUMBER is approx £27k pa nett (touch wood)
Amended 2021 - new NUMBER is approx £29k pa nett - heading that way...fingers crossed!

Shouldn't the removal company have its own insurance to cover for damage to goods in transit?

Not all Home Insurers provide cover for removal and some of the companies that do provide the cover require the removal company to have carried out the packing of the boxes for the cover to apply
