France via Jersey/Guernsey to UK Ferry

Hello,
Well this is sort of overseas, but feel free to move it to UK if needed.
I want to get the ferry from France to the UK, not really bothered from which ports either side but as I will be cycling my preference is from St Malo. (I only need to do the France UK route as I will be going from New Haven to Dieppe a few months earlier.)
As I understand the ferry to Poole stops in Jersey and I thought I could add a few nights here, but the price doubles when buying two separate tickets to cover the journey with an overnight stay. £40 for a one way direct ticket and £80 for a break.
Is it possible to do something like this more cheaply than £80? I am happy to combine routes, change departure/arrival ports, book in advance, turn up on the day, whichever will be the cheapest. It will be early August (prefer around the 5th but flexible by a week either way) and I will have a bike (if it affects what ferry I can travel on).
Hoping someone with knowledge can point me in the right direction. Thanks

Yes, I noticed that problem...
The nearest I found to a solution was that certain sailings (on the one ticket) give you a few hours in the Channel Islands before the journey continues.0 -
If you can spare the time, Jersey is great for cyclists owing to the Green Lanes. Well worth the detour.
